What is a Ping Test?

Ping is a utility used to test the reachability of a host on an Internet Protocol (IP) network. It sends ICMP (Internet Control Message Protocol) Echo Request packets to the target server and waits for an Echo Reply. Measuring the time it takes for these packets to travel back and forth (Round-Trip Time or RTT) provides a metric for network latency and connection stability.
